Did you know that you can learn more about your university, develop new skills and build experience for the future while getting paid?

At the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), international students can pursue a job on campus through the International University Works program. International University Works students work full-time during the summer months and up to 10 to 12 hours per week during the school year. Debra White is the coordinator of the University Works program at UOIT. She describes the program this way: “The International University Works program is intended to provide full-time UOIT students with useful career-related experiences that will help them to achieve their personal and academic goals.”

As a University Works student, you will earn money to offset your expenses, develop new skills, learn more about your university and add practical work experience to your résumé. You will also enjoy the convenience of having a job on campus and only minutes away from your classes and residence.

Oscar Liu, a fourth-year Criminology and Justice student from Jamaica, has been part of the University Works program for a few years. When asked about the benefits of on-campus employment, he says, “I love working on campus because of the skills I learn and network I am developing while being there. It also helps me better understand everything that goes into running the university, and teaches me valuable interpersonal skills that will help in my future. Working on campus accommodates my class schedule and life as a student; it's perfect!”
