A Smooth Ride Through University is Like a Well-Tuned Car

Concordia UniversityWhat do a broken down car and a bad university experience have in common? They both need expert help.

If you drive a beater, you may not care much when something goes wrong. You just keep driving until it stops working. But university is a time consuming and expensive proposition. It’s much more like driving a performance car – and performance cars need lots of preventative maintenance.

The good news is that it’s easy to have a smooth university education because the maintenance is easy and leads to success!

Step 1. Manage your time. It’s crucial to approach time as a commodity that needs to be controlled (like gas). Spend your time wisely. Schedule study time for when you’re most alert, and say no to things that take time from your priorities.

Step 2.Review, review, review. Each day after class, spend time doing a review of your lecture notes. Once a week, spend an hour per subject reviewing lecture notes and assigned readings. Do a major review every two weeks before tests.

Step 3. Study in groups. Groups are a great way to learn course material, but make sure you connect with people with similar goals to yours. Groups of 5 or 6 are best, using time to teach one another, asking questions, brainstorming test questions and comparing notes.

Applying these three easy strategies will ensure you have a smooth ride through university!
