University of British ColumbiaChoosing a university is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make in your life. The more planning you do before you apply, the better university experience you will have. Here are some things to consider to make sure you choose the school that’s right for you.

Programs
What do you want to study? While you don’t need to decide this right away, you’ll want to make sure that the university you choose offers programs that will help you fulfill your academic and career-related dreams.

Location
Students who choose the University ofBritish Columbia (UBC)have the option to attend one of two campuses: UBC’s Vancouver campus is located in Vancouver, BC, surrounded by ocean and majestic mountains;and UBC’s Okanagan campus is in Kelowna, BC, a close-knit community nestled among orchards, mountains, and lakes. The best wayto get the feel of a campus is to visit the school, take acampus tour, and talk to students. If you can’t make it to campus, you can still experience UBC by taking a virtual campus tour: UBC’s Vancouver campus|UBC’s Okanagan campus.

Cost
The price of higher education is understandably a concern for many families but you shouldn’t rule out the school of your dreams based on costs alone. Scholarships and financial aid can make the difference between affording your dream school or not, so be sure to apply for them — even if you don’t think you’ll qualify. UBC’s helpful cost calculator (VancouverOkanagan) makes it easy for student and their families to get an idea of what university will cost.

The Right Fit
While going to University is about academics, there is so much more to the university experience than just studying. That’s why UBC asks applicants about their life experiences and what they’ve learned from them.UBC wants to give applicants every opportunity to shine!

Activities and Support
The school you choose should offer the kinds of extra-curricular activities that you enjoy — and those that you’d like to try. At UBC, for instance, there are over 300 clubs and thousands of opportunities to get involved with the campus and community.
