With so many career possibilities available, it is sometimes hard to know where to start. How can you determine what career path is right for you and gain relevant work experience while going to school?

It is ok if you don’t have it all figured out yet. The purpose of a university education is to explore your options, discover your passion and translate that into a career you love. The University of Lethbridge will help you each step of the way.

We offer a variety of international study exchanges, internships or co-op programs that combine academic studies with the real-world experience valued by employers. You can explore employment options in your field, develop relevant skills and make an informed career choice.

As an International Management major, with a minor in Spanish, Jillian Kruschell (BMgt ’12) spent two academic semesters studying at La Universidad Especialidades Espiritu Santo in Guayaquil, Ecuador. “The classes I took were in the areas of Spanish language and business, but the perspective offered was so unique, “ says Jillian. “I was able to see the side of the developing world and the struggles and corruption faced in business there.”

As part of the exchange, Jillian did a two-month internship at a school for street children where she helped design classes to improve the self-esteem of its students. This allowed her to apply her business knowledge, gain practical work experience, and hone her Spanish skills.

“The three most important things I gained from this experience were independence, confidence and a second language,” says Jillian. “I feel so much more confident in my ability to adapt to different situations and to foster friendships in unfamiliar places. I think this has benefitted me in a great way both personally and professionally.”
