Grenfell Students Gain Work Experience Through Mentoring Program

The Grenfell Campus A.C.C.E.S.S. Mentoring Program will help bridge the gap between education and workforce.

This program couples students with professionals in the workplace who become mentors, helping students to gain firsthand knowledge and experience in their field of interest. Mentors share information about their occupations and offer practical career related experience and advice. The program is designed to create opportunities for students to explore their occupational options.

Final year students are given the chance to gain some valuable work experience and make relevant contacts. They will use the information gained from the experience to make more informed career decisions after having spent some time in their chosen field.

These placements are primarily student-driven. The details of the placement are directed by the needs of both the student and employer. Generally, students are spending up to 12 hours a month at the placement throughout a semester. Placements are non-credit and unpaid.

Reception from employers has been very positive and they have indicated that they would be much more inclined to hire a recent graduate who has had specific experience in their place of work.
