Description:Centennial’s unique Journalism (Fast-Track) program is an accelerated offering designed for university and college graduates seeking practical, multiplatform training for careers in media and communications. With your previous education, you will enter directly into the third year of the six semester journalism program and begin learning first-hand how to report, research and examine issues of our times using a wide range of contemporary media. You will hone your writing skills while exploring a variety of storytelling methods and tools to prepare you to cover everything from breaking news to in-depth features in digital, print and broadcast formats.

In this program at Centennial’s School of Communications, Media and Design you will: Learn to write, produce and share stories in an energetic, dynamic and hands-on environment, led by a faculty of seasoned professionals and educators; Develop a portfolio of broadcast work and published stories and photos as you apply your skills in a real newsroom, producing an online publication, an award-winning community newspaper, a magazine and radio-television news; Develop new multiplatform, digital and social media skills for the evolving world of news reporting and sharing; Travel seamlessly from the classroom to the newsroom during an exciting, 15-week field placement in the final semester of the program. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to launch a fast-paced, exciting career on the front lines of the day’s events, ready to capture and share the stories of the people affected. Please note: This program requires students to have and use a mobile computing device (i.e. laptop, tablet) that meets or exceeds the recommended hardware requirements. Detailed requirements will be emailed to new students prior to program registration.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    College diploma or university degree in any discipline. We will consider applicants with partial post-secondary education (minimum two full successful years) and relevant work experience.

    Complete either of the following options: Applicants with a record of published journalism-related work must provide: An up-to-date resume and References. A selection of six-to-ten published pieces - you may include clippings, printouts or airchecks of published or broadcast work from an established newspaper, news website (including university or college news media), journalism blog site or radio or television news outlet.
    Applicants without a record of published journalism must attend a Program Admission Session where they will: complete a two-part writing test; submit an up-to-date resume; and submit writing samples of six-to-eight pieces that may include academic essay extracts, creative (fiction) writing
