During the time you spend in the offering, you will not only be prepared for the constantly changing field of environmental technology through classroom learning, but also through a co-op component. Firstly, practical training in the three foundation disciplines of chemistry, biology and civil engineering will ensure that you gain the know-how to understand and manage complex environmental problems. You will also learn about advanced analytical chemistry, hazardous material management and municipal engineering. Secondly, you will partake in hands-on activities that will teach you to function effectively with the tools and equipment used in: Microbiology; Ecological field sampling; Analytical chemistry; Hazardous material management; Surveying and municipal engineering; AutoCAD drawing; Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping.

Laboratory practice in water quality testing, groundwater movement, computer aided environmental audits and the chemistry of pollutants will round out the skills needed to analyze and remediate the urban environment. This unique combination of technical competencies will greatly increase your career options. Also increasing your career options will be the co-op element, which will allow you to enhance your education by working as a paid employee in the field. This experience will see you put classroom learning into practice and provide you with valuable contacts for future careers. Please note: After semester four of this Environmental Technology (Fast Track/Co-op) program, you will have met the requirements for the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Entry-Level Courses for Drinking Water Operators and be qualified to write the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) Operator-in-Training and Water Quality Analyst exams.
