Description:Trinity Western University is committed to training leaders in professional, academic and mission fields. The MA Linguistics degree program prepares students to contribute and lead in the field of linguistics with a foundation in both theoretical and applied linguistics.

This two-year (39 semester hour) graduate academic program is strongly oriented towards linguistic field work. It prepares students to analyze and describe the linguistic structures of languages and to put previously unwritten languages into writing. While most graduate linguistics programs emphasize theory, this program emphasizes practical linguistic analysis in the development of language programs in roles such as language revitalization, orthography development, literacy program development, and translation.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants must have a Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all undergraduate work and 3.0 based on the last two years of the B.A.; completed at least 12 semester hours of linguistics prerequisites including courses equivalent to articulatory phonetics, phonological analysis and grammatical analysis. All prerequisite courses must have been completed with a minimum grade of B. Applicants must also have completed at least 6 semester hours (or equivalent) of a foreign language. If the applicant does not meet this requirement, the requirement may be met later during the program; however, any credits earned towards the foreign language requirement will not be included in the total hours needed to complete the M.A. degree
