DescriptionThe Health Informatics Technology (Fast Track, Co-op) program is for you if you are looking for a speedy way to launch your career, with the added benefit of work placement experience prior to graduation. Qualified college or university graduates with a background in software gain direct admission into year two (semester three) of the three-year program and receive an advanced diploma in four semesters (plus two work terms). This School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science offering will seamlessly incorporate knowledge of both information technology and healthcare systems. You will begin your studies at Progress Campus, where coursework will emphasize object-oriented software design methodologies, user-oriented interface design, structure of healthcare information systems, telehealth, clinical workflow & IT solutions, data security and privacy in healthcare systems. It will also focus on technologies including C#, Java, Java EE, Oracle, MS-SQL Server, Microsoft’s .NET, Mobile Application DevelopmentData Warehousing and Data Mining, and BI tools in healthcare systems.

During your time at Centennial College, you will also gain hands-on training through the inclusion of two software development projects in the field of health informatics. These real world business applications will require you to utilize all the technical, systems, and business skills gained during your studies. Your education will further benefit from a co-op component that will allow you to gain hands-on experience in two work terms. If you qualify academically you will apply software engineering techniques to healthcare information systems and use health informatics methods and software tools. You may even have the opportunity to work alongside the biggest names in the field. Students have completed their co-op component at organizations that include The Hospital for Sick Children, Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto General Hospital and Centenary Hospital. Intersecting information technology with healthcare can help health professionals make informed decisions, reduce errors and deliver efficient service to their patients. As a graduate from this program, you will be able to analyze and model data, develop healthcare databases and apply modern software development methodologies. You will also use health informatics methods and software tools for hospitals, healthcare agencies and public health departments.
