One-Year Bachelor of Journalism

University of King's College

You’re curious about the world around you, eager to explore issues that matter and driven to tell stories. You already have an undergraduate degree. Now you want a journalism career.

This program builds upon your broad undergraduate education to give you the professional skills to become a working journalist in a collaborative environment. You’ll gain practical, ethical and technical knowledge to thrive in the digital media environment. You’ll participate in hands-on workshops to tell stories in text, images, audio and video. No experience in journalism is required.

Join the strong network of King’s grads working as journalists across Canada and around the globe such as Angel Moore, Shauntay Grant, Adam Scotti and Wanda Taylor.

Boot Camp

Begin with an eight-week introduction to finding information, asking questions and applying ethical principles. Then gain the practical skills to create stories across platforms that resonate with the public.

Workshops

After you complete Boot Camp, you’ll join fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Journalism (Honours) program for three six-week workshops.

Please note: not all the workshops will be offered each year. Course offerings will depend upon interest and enrolment.

Internship

You’ll do a month-long internship at an approved media outlet. Your placement can involve reporting, editing or research. It will give you an opportunity to explore career options and broaden your experiences. Students before you have interned at locations big and small from Iqaluit to Toronto to London, England.
