Description:

Develop prevention, intervention and treatment strategies to facilitate a positive change in children, youth and their families who experience a range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges. Students in Mohawk's Child and Youth Care program will have the opportunity to specialize in supporting change with children, youth and their families experiencing a range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges.



Child and Youth Care students will participate in field placements, with the first typically being with a school board, and the other two incorporating residential, treatment, adolescent and community based settings.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Applicants are required to have an OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent (70% guideline). Please visit the website for complete program requirements.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79-80]
Application Notes : All classes in Mohawk College are provided in English. Students whose first language is not English are expected to prove their proficiency with one of the following: successful completion of GAS-EAP (478) Program Level 8 with 70%; TOEFL minimum score of 550 (80 Internet based); IELTS minimum score of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5; or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma & English Credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued from a public school board.
