Description: Art, in all its forms, reflects the way in which we understand the world and ourselves. Written art, because it uses language, verbalizes this human understanding. Through the study of literature, you increase your knowledge of human nature and thus, grow both intellectually and emotionally.

The study of English also teaches you the communication skills of research, analytical reading, critical thinking, oral communication, and written communication. Mastering these most basic skills is essential for your success in the working world and for a multitude of tasks from writing letters for job applications to gathering information, developing reports, and maintaining an ongoing and effective dialogue with your colleagues.
