Located in Toronto, Ontario, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto is an international leader in the research, teaching and study of issues that matter in education. For more than a century, we have participated in the transformation of education in Ontario through the teaching of teachers, research, graduate studies, and through our leadership in educational policy and its impact on practice around the world.
Areas of Expertise
As Canada's pre-eminent faculty of education OISE provides an exciting context in which to learn to teach! Our goal is to prepare teacher candidates to become highly effective and skilled professional teachers who continue to learn and develop their expertise through inquiry and reflective practice.

Initial teacher education is central to OISE’s educational mission. The term "initial teacher education" describes a program of professional education taken in order to be eligible to become certified to teach in elementary or secondary school.

Explore our 2014 programs leading to teaching certification:

• Consecutive Bachelor of Education (1-year second-entry professional program with elementary or secondary teacher certification)

• Master of Teaching (2-year graduate program with elementary or secondary teacher certification)

• MA in Child Studies and Education (2-year MA degree with elementary teacher certification)
