| Field of Study: |
Sociology
|
| Description: |
Sociology is the disciplined effort to understand society, social and cultural relations, the working of institutions, and the patterns of behaviour that characterize all social life. Sociologists are interested in how humans form groups, whether for peace or war, co-operation or conflict, persuasion or domination, development or destruction. The Sociologist's "laboratories" are work settings, health care institutions, social service agencies and other organizations. The particular nature of sociological study emphasizes the need to understand the structural influences on such things as health and illness, educational achievement, occupation and social problems such as deviance and crime.
