I am proud to share my experiences as an international student in London, Ontario
Travelling far away from home is scary for anyone, especially a young international student who may be leaving their friends, family, and familiar places behind. I feel confident shining this bright light on London because I have spent several years here as a student at Huron at Western University.
When I chose London as my second home, it was one of the best choices I have ever made. I loved my time at Huron and, equally, as part of one of Canada’s best cities. I remember when I accidentally slipped while walking out of my apartment. I wasn’t hurt, but without hesitation, a complete stranger stopped to help me and ensure I got home safely. I honestly can’t imagine that happening anywhere but here.
Enjoy big city amenities and small city safety
With more than 520,000 people, London, Ontario offers the perfect balance between a bustling city with the calm, security, and comforts of a smaller community. London is located within the very heart of Southwestern Ontario, just two hours from the American border and two hours from Toronto, Canada’s largest city. Not only are the indoor amenities fantastic, but London is known as the “Forest City”. There are more than 40 public parks and green spaces where you can spend a relaxing day. You can also go skiing at Boler Mountain, sledding, skating, and swimming, depending on the time of year. The ability to see trees and nature wherever you go adds a layer of beauty and respite to all of your inner-city travels.

People can practice any religion openly and safely across all of Canada, and that is certainly true for London, Ontario. The city is home to one of the very first Muslim mosques built in the county, and there are several Buddhist temples located throughout London.
This number is even greater amongst the university population. With Western and Huron University welcoming more than 40,000 students each year, including 6,000 international students, the city is home to 140 languages and countless spiritual, religious, and cultural practices.
