Trent University's Remote Learning Initiative Brings 500 Free Laptops to Students

Remote learning has never been easier thanks to Trent's donor-sponsored laptop program.

Some of the biggest drawbacks of online learning are the technical limitations. Students must have access to technology that can keep up with them — and across the country, access is far from equally distributed.

Trent University takes access to tech seriously. That's why they've introduced the Remote Learning Initiative (ReLI): a donor-funded program that has raised over $270,000 to support Trent students.

500 free Chromebooks for Trent students

Many schools offer laptop loan programs to students who need it. But ReLI is unique: it's giving 500 Chromebook laptops to students, no strings attached. When so many of us are studying from our couches and kitchen tables, it's a relief that the laptops are gifts, not loans!

Not only will students get Chromebooks, they'll also get new supports for reliable internet connections, even in remote areas. After all, you can't learn online if you can't get online.

ReLI — like the many other programs to financially support Trent students — can be accessed through the Trent Financial Aid office. Distribution of the Chromebooks started August 17th for Trent students.

Virtual Computing Commons

Trent is also launching a new service for students and faculty to access software they may once have relied on in computer labs. Students at Trent — on their new Chromebooks or their other devices — will be able to connect remotely to a Windows Virtual Desktop pre-loaded with apps and programs critical to teaching and learning.

The fall semester begins at the Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses of Trent University on September 10! Thanks to the generous support of donors, including alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and foundations, students will get the education they deserve.
