Centennial College Prepares You for Employment with Applied Learning and Student Services
You can be confident in finding a job after your studies with your school's support. Discover the ways Centennial College prepares students for employment.
"Centennial College is not just like any other academic institution... they really support you all the way," says Mila Monica Maralit, an international student from the Philippines, and graduate of the Hospitality and Tourism program at Centennial College.
Continuing your education as an international student in a new country can bring both opportunities and challenges. There's the beauty of finding new friends, exploring a new country and trying new things. However, there are also the uncertainties of learning a new language, being away from family, and the challenge of finding a job after your studies.
Finding the right school
When considering what college or university to apply to, Monica encourages all international students to choose a school that will offer the support you need. "You will really have a great host, especially with Centennial College. In this community, there is a huge, great support system," she explains. Before coming to Canada, Monica made a big change in her career outlook.
After completing a bachelor's degree in linguistics in the Philippines, she chose to study hospitality and tourism in Canada. Monica took advantage of the support the college offered by spending five months in Scotland as an exchange student. Centennial's Services and Global Experiences (SaGE) team offers unique opportunities for students to gain international experience and build their personal and professional portfolios. "I wouldn't have had that experience if not for SaGE and Centennial College," she says.
Completing real-world projects
While in the classroom, students are given the tools to help them succeed after graduation. Professors often work in the industry themselves, exposing students to industry connections at field events, volunteer opportunities and with guest lecturers. In the classroom, you will complete real-world projects and engage with work-integrated learning opportunities that don't just teach concepts but prepare you for a career in your chosen field.
Diego Alejandro Ramos, an international student from Colombia, met guest speakers at engagement opportunities facilitated by The Business School at Centennial, such as career fairs and marketing agency visits. He says of his experience, "our instructors motivated us to exchange contact information with people and to build a network... putting your knowledge and experience in action to do that and then getting a job in the field is something really special."
Renowned research, excellent employability
As one of Canada's top colleges for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, Centennial's department of Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services serves dozens of industry partners each year, helping to solve research-related challenges and grow businesses with the aid of students and faculty. This provides real-world experiences for students and empowers them to take advantage of research and entrepreneurship opportunities through paid internships and experiential learning opportunities. In fact, Centennial ranks #1 amongst Canadian colleges for providing paid student internships in applied research! (Research Infosource, 2021).
Centennial College is well-known for its expert faculty, quality of classes, and graduate and student satisfaction. The college was also rated #1 in Canada and #4 globally for "employability" in the 2021 International Student Barometer (ISB) survey. 89.4% of students are satisfied that their program at Centennial will help them get a good job after they are finished their studies (ISB 2021).
