Applying to a Canadian University is Easier than You Think!

It's really all about your grades.

So you've done your research and narrowed down the list of universities you want to apply to.

Every institution is different, but for the most part, academic performance in your previous studies is the main determining factor for admission to undergraduate degree programs in Canada.

If you are a good student, doing well in high school, and getting good grades, you will be a good candidate for university.

Simple to apply

To apply to most undergraduate degrees in Canada, you need to provide:

• Your transcripts (official grades), and
• An English as a Second Language (ESL) test score. (The test score ensures that you will be able to handle the course work, which in the case of Carleton University, is taught in English.)

For the most part, you don't have to write essays, or provide letters of recommendation or standardized tests like SAT scores.

*That said, some bachelor programs — because of their artistic or unique nature — require a portfolio as part of your application.

"But I haven't graduated yet, and don't have my final marks!" Not to worry, admissions officers take this into consideration, and can provide a conditional offer of admission based on midterm or predicted grades. You can accept a conditional offer, and then your responsibility is to maintain your grades.

Different deadlines

Canadian universities have different deadlines than other countries (and each other!), and it's important to know that now is the time to apply!

At Carleton University, the application for September 2020 is open!

At Carleton, the general deadline for international students is April 1 (but be sure to check which programs have early deadlines of February 1, or March 1).

The sooner you apply, the sooner you can accept your offer before programs fill up, and to ensure that you have lots of time to get a study permit.

Automatic Scholarships

Many Canadian universities, including Carleton, offer merit-based scholarships automatically as part of the admissions process. It's important to do your research, as all schools will have their own offerings.
