Description:The Master of Social Work (MSW) at King's is a Direct Practice (non-thesis) program designed to develop and enhance the knowledge and practice skills of social work professionals. The degree offers two options: either a 1-year program for students who have completed a BSW degree. This program is structured to deliver graduate courses in three academic terms: Fall, Winter and Summer. Students are enrolled for 12 months although course work is normally completed by the end of June. The 2-year option is designed for students who have completed a 4-year degree in a different discipline. This program is structured to deliver foundational social work courses during the three terms of the first year and advanced social work courses during the three terms of the second year. This program is 24 months in length. The MSW degree is offered through the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Western University and all courses are offered by the School of Social Work at King’s University College. The MSW degree is awarded by Western University.

MSW Program Objectives:

- Educate social workers for advanced direct practice roles with individuals, families and groups.
- Develop social work administrative supervisory competence.
- Consolidate community based responses to social need influenced by social planning and social policy knowledge.
- Enhance research based competency in a direct practice context.

    1-YEAR MSW
    A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from an accredited university; At least a 70% average in the last two full-time years, or part-time equivalent; Completion of a Research Methods course


    2-YEAR MSW
    A 4-year Bachelor degree; Minimum 70% average in the last two full-time years, or part-time equivalent; Completion of a Research Methods course
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or DuoLingo [min. 600] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7] or Test of Written English (part of TOEFL) [min. 60]
    Application Notes : Students must present both the academic as well as non academic requirements for consideration. The non academic requirements include 2 non academic references, a resume and experiences summary as well as completion of the Supplemental Questions provided with the application.

    Students admitted to King's University College must be proficient in written and spoken English. Applicants for whom English is not their first language and who have not lived or studied in an English language environment for a period of at least 4 years will be required to write one of the following tests: T.O.E.F.L. (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - a written score of 580 or higher and a score of 4.5 on the TWE or a score of 83 on Internet Based Test (IBT) with no section less than 20; DUO (Duolingo)- a minimum score of 115 overall with a minimum 100 for each subscore; I.E.L.T.S. (International English Language Testing System) - a score of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any section; or C.A.E.L. (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) - a minimum score of 60 is required with no part less than 60.
