Description: | The Biology Department and the Computing Science and Information Systems Department offers two bioinformatics programs: Associate of Science Degree in Bioinformatics and Diploma in Bioinformatics. Both programs have a Co-operative Education option. The two-year bioinformatics programs at Langara provide students with a strong knowledge of computer science and biology and gives students basic bioinformatics skills necessary to succeed in upper level courses while pursuing a university degree. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary science dealing with the application of computer science and information technology to biological information in order to solve complex biological problems. Biological information, especially in the form of DNA or protein sequence data, is very amenable to digitization and information in biological databases has been growing at an exponential rate. |
