Field of Study: | Early Childhood Education and Teaching
|
Description: | Early Childhood Education (ECE) prepares students to provide quality childcare in the community. Graduates competently plan appropriate learning experiences that stimulate the intellectual, physical, emotional and social development of young children.
This program is based on the study of child development within a developmental health perspective - and the implications for providing quality childcare for young children. Students learn about current research in neurobiology and early human development, how genes and environment interact to make us who we are, individual patterns of development and the important role of early experience in lifelong human development. This information is continuously linked to practice based on a child-centred, play-based curriculum. Positive guidance techniques, the emergent curriculum approach, and working closely with families and communities is emphasized. This program provides practical experience working with young children at a variety of children's centres. |
