Field of Study: | Veterinary/Animal Health tech./Technician and Veterinary Assistant
|
Description: | Providing quality health care for animals is complex. In addition to mastering technology and procedures, animal health technicians must be adept in the management and care of animals and laboratory facilities, and be able to take on an administrative role in the office. The ability to be compassionate and to communicate with clients is vital. In this dynamic program, which is accredited by both the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and the Canadian Council for Animal Care, the teaching of theory is accompanied by hands-on training. Students take X-Rays, use animal skeletons and models to locate appropriate puncture sites and learn correct injection and sampling techniques, clean teeth, administer medications, monitor anesthesia, and assist Vanier veterinarians during surgery. Mandatory clinical and research fieldwork/internship placements are part of the program.
