Description:	The Division of Community Health and Humanities offers comprehensive graduate programs leading to a Diploma in Community Health, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Faculty interests include community health, epidemiology, socio-behavioural health, biostatistics, health services utilization, health policy, and health promotion. Participants in the program develop strong research skills and gain knowledge through core courses and research seminars. A visiting speaker program provides an opportunity for scientific exchange with researchers from other institutions across Canada and elsewhere. There is also a strong journal club organized by the graduate students. Students are required to write a thesis in an area relevant to Community Health under the supervision of their supervisor. The thesis must answer an original research question.

Prerequisites:*	These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. To qualify for admissions to the graduate doctoral program in community health, students must: * Have a masters degree in a related discipline from a university of recognized standing. * Have completed a masters thesis or have related research experience. * Meet the MUN English requirements (complete an undergraduate degree in English from a recognized University or have a satisfactory TOELF score). * Have completed an undergraduate statistics course. * Have satisfactory appraisals from three referees. * Find a faculty member in the division who is will to be her/his supervisor. For information on how to find a potential faculty supervisor, please visit: Finding a Potential Supervisor Upon admission to the PhD program, a student must take the comprehensive examination before the end of the seventh semester according to the General Regulations governing the School of Graduate Studies at Memorial. The comprehensive exam will consist of both a written and oral component. The specific areas to be examined will be chosen by an examination committee in consultation with the student's supervisor.
