Program Information

School:Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Moose Jaw Campus)
Faculty:School of Mining, Energy and Manufacturing
Degree:Diploma; Co-op
Field of Study:Surveying Technology/Surveying
Description:History has shown us that exploration and navigation have led to the development of many science-based careers and geomatics is one of these. Students in our Geomatics program will learn about representing the world and its environment and the importance of the three-dimensional information that we see every day. You will learn a variety of surveying techniques from the fundamentals of cadastral surveying using ground-based equipment to data collection with the modern space-based GPS systems. You will also learn how smart phones can provide you with live maps and how geographic information systems (GIS) can be used to update and analyze these maps. You will be introduced to remote sensing technologies for land-use/land-cover planning, resource mapping, atmospheric monitoring and environment management. If you enjoy discovering the unknown and travelling to unexplored placed that not many people have experienced, if you are creative and like to think on your feet and solve problems on your own, if you enjoy the freedom and experiences that the natural environment has to offer and take pride in seeing what others have missed, then Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Geomatics and Surveying Engineering Technology program will appeal to you.

Our Geomatics and Surveying Engineering Technology program has national recognition from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CBEPS). The Geomatics and Surveying Engineering Technology program is a three-year diploma program offered full time at Moose Jaw Campus. You'll take five academic semesters and participate in three Co-operative Education work terms.
