Description:Are you interested in learning how to responsibly develop our resource-based economy while protecting our forests, waterways, and land?

Through Confederation College’s Environmental Technician two-year diploma program, you will learn to effectively manage natural and man-made environments. This program will explore environmental issues and provide hands-on tools for assessing, protecting and restoring ecosystems. Best of all, you’ll learn in one of the greatest natural labs available: the Boreal Forest, a rich and diverse forest ecosystem that stretches around the northern hemisphere. Courses cover a wide variety of related topics including plant identification, natural resource measurements, soils & geomorphology, ecology, waste management, ground water, surface water and water & waste water treatment.

Admission Requirements

Prerequisites:*These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Applicants are required to have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C), or Open (O) preparation levels with Grade 12 English (C/U) Level; or successful completion of the Mature Student Assessment; or successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED); or appropriate credits from the Academic and Career Entrance program (ACE). Applicants are also recommended to have Grade 11 or 12 College or University preparation Chemistry & Biology. The Environmental Technician program is clustered with the Forest Ecosystem Management Technician program. It is possible to complete both of these two-year diplomas in three years, if the co-op option is completed, either at the end of the first or second year of the program. If you do not meet the entrance requirements, or if you want to earn some credits toward the Environmental Technician Diploma while exploring your career options in Technology, we encourage you to apply for the Pre-Technology-Trades program.




Program Requirements (for international students):
  • A high school/senior secondary diploma; original transcripts as well as a notarized, translated copy must be provided where applicable
  • English Proficiency; academic IELTS: 6.0, no band lower than 5.5, except for students from India who must have no band lower than 6.0 to meet SDS requirements.
  • Additional Admission Requirements:

      The Environmental Technician program starts with a two-week field school at the beginning of both of the fall semesters. Students must be prepared for long days outside during field school.
