Description: | The MA program provides a background in economic theory, quantitative methods and applied areas of study suitable for students who are either planning a career in business or government or those students who intend to continue on to the PhD program. The MA program is offered on a full-time basis and has been designed so that students can complete the degree in three semesters.

Prerequisites:* | These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. The usual prerequisite for admission into the MA Program is a Bachelor's degree in economics from a recognized institution. The minimum cumulative grade point average required for admission is 3.0. Qualified students with a Master’s degree in another discipline may also be admitted. Students with strong background in disciplines other than economics may be admitted as qualifying students to give them an opportunity to strengthen their economics background.

Application Notes : | A copy of unofficial scores (even if the application checklist indicates that official scores have been received). Applicants whose primary language is not English will be required to take theTest of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if they have completed a degree at an institution where the language of instruction and examination was not in English in a country where English is not the primary language.
A copy of unofficial scores (even if the application checklist indicates that official scores have been received). Applicants who have completed or are currently completing their post-secondary studies at an institution outside of Canada are required to take the Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE). There is no minimum requirement however, please note that the GMAT cannot be substituted for the GRE. Send the official test results to Simon Fraser University, using Institution Code 0999 and Department Code 1801.
