| Description: | The Department of Dentistry in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta established a special program in 2000 for graduates of dental programs recognized by the World Health Organization; but not accredited in Canada or the United States. Its purpose is to prepare dentists to take the examinations of the National Dental Examining Board of Canada.
This program is for graduates of non-accredited dental programs, i.e. educational programs that have not been recognized by the Commission of Dental Accreditation for Canada (CDAC) or the Commission of Dental Accreditation for the United States (CODA). Successful applicants will be integrated into the third year of the regular DDS undergraduate program. In addition to clinical practice at the University of Alberta Dental Clinic, students participate in clinics at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, the University of Alberta Hospital, and in a satellite dental clinic rotation in Northern Alberta. |

Graduates of non-accredited dental programs are required to follow an equivalency process to obtain certification as a general dentist in Canada. Please review the The National Dental Examining Board (NDEB) of Canada website for information regarding the NDEB Equivalency Process.
In order to be eligible to apply to the DDS Advanced Placement Program, applicants must:
be graduates of a minimum four-year university dental program, not recognized by the CDAC.
have successfully completed the the AFK Examination sponsored by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) prior to the application deadline (April 1).

- Be graduates of a minimum four-year university dental program, not recognized by the CDAC.
- Have successfully completed the the AFK Examination sponsored by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) within two years prior to the application deadline (April 1). |
