Prerequisites:* | These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Applicants are required to have Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level, and Grade 12 academic English* minimum of 65%.
Candidates must be out of high school at least one year before applying to this program due to the nature of the work and the age range of the clientele serviced by a child and youth care worker. |

Applicants must also have: two letters of reference, one personal and one from an employer or teacher, not a family member; and a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) with no findings of guilt. Applicants must also: participate in an interview which will be conducted by program staff and include a written assignment, and have a minimum of 250 hours paid work or volunteer experience with youth ages 8-18. Babysitting hours are not acceptable. NOTE: All 250 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience must be received by Admissions before an interview will be scheduled. In addition, applicants must have a Standard First Aid and CPR Level C from a recognized First Aid/CPR trainer, completion of a program questionnaire, a Current Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) Certificate, and a résumé including work and volunteer experience with applicable dates, membership in groups, associations or athletics, awards and distinctions, and any other information about yourself relevant to the program. |
