Description: | Over a two-year period, students train on a rotational basis with five-eight weeks terms in the classroom and nine weeks of hands-on, paid work experience in a GM dealership. Classroom instructors are trained by General Motors, and are in tune with the latest trends in technology. New vehicles, training components and aids are provided by GM for students to work on and learn from in a closely supervised and structured environment.
The automotive service technician apprenticeship process requires time spent on the job and in-school training. A GM (ASEP) automotive technician apprentice must complete a five-level program including 7,200 workplace hours and 1,200 in-school hours of training. After completion of training, a passing grade on inter-provincial exams will result in the BC Certificate of Apprenticeship and the Certificate of Qualification, with Red Seal Inter-provincial Certification. |
