Description: | This interdisciplinary study examines the development, transmission and transformation of ideas and attitudes about women and gender across different historical periods, societies and cultures. Students will examine perspectives on women's activities and experiences by using an interdisciplinary lens to look at gender issues such as: women's work and the role of the woman in family, the development, transmission and perpetuation of ideas and attitudes about women, women's contribution to culture, and the particular concerns and problems of women today.
Students will develop critical and analytic skills as thinkers, writers, and communicators that will shape their research and their ability to work on issues involving women and equity at the community level. A degree including Women's and Gender Studies will enable students to assess how women's roles across disciplines impact our understanding of society and history and our actions, past and present, within local and global communities. |
