| Description: | The general goal of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Studies Program is to examine issues and trends in education at an advanced level and from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Studies requires a dissertation that makes original and significant contributions to knowledge. The research is to be conducted within traditional educational and/or community-based contexts extending from early childhood through adulthood.
Working with leading UPEI scholars and faculty supervision, students investigate theoretical, empirical and practical aspects of a variety of public education processes such as; educational culture, educational policy curricula, teaching, learning, teacher education, school administration and the lives of students (children, youth, adults) in relation to education. Graduates of the PhD in Educational Studies will develop the competence and expertise needed to assume positions of leadership such as academic scholars, researchers in institutional or community contexts, teacher educators, curriculum and instructional leaders in school boards and private industry, school, school board and governmental educational administrators. This program also promotes collaborative work with colleagues in educational endeavours and life-long professional development. |
