Field of Study: | American/United States Studies/Civilization
|
Description: | The American Studies Program is designed to provide students with a broad, yet deep, education about the United States. To ensure breadth, students are required to take two interdisciplinary core courses that range widely both with respect to the themes covered and disciplinary perspectives applied. As well, the Program offers a wide selection of courses from participating departments and programs in the Faculty of Arts and Science, giving students broad exposure to fundamental themes of American life. Most students combine studies in this area with another focus such as history, cinema studies, geography, political science, or English. The program emphasizes skills in research, writing, and critical thinking and thus provides an excellent foundation for further work in any of these fields, as well as applied areas such as law, public policy, communications and media, and others. |
