Field of Study: | English Language and Literature, General Secondary Education and Teaching
|
Description: | The Bishop’s experience in English is about studying all kinds of cultural texts, from Old English epics to contemporary films and television. It’s about both critical insight and creative production. And most importantly, it’s about developing a genuine community through an intimate environment. Small classes enable students and professors to get to know and learn from one another. Visiting speakers, poetry nights at local cafés and pubs, an internationally recognized undergraduate conference, a student-run film festival, movie nights, creative writing contests, and a party every term extend learning well beyond the classroom.
The Secondary Teacher Education Program at Bishop’s University is a two step program leading to two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Sciences (B.Sc.) with a Double Major (Education and a teaching discipline) and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) This combination of degrees is required in order to be eligible for a Quebec teaching permit or “brevet d’enseignement.” This degree only certifies you to teach in the province of Quebec. If you are planning to teach in another province, it is your responsibility to contact the Ministry of Education in that province to see what additional courses are required to certify you to teach in their province. |
Cost per year:* | Cost estimate is per 30 credits. Please note that a “typical” course will be worth 3 credits and that most students will take 5 courses per semester for a total of 30 credits over one academic year (September to April). Bishop’s also offers a condensed Spring session (May and June). |
