Prerequisites:* | These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. The admission requirement into the PhD program is a Master's degree with an academic standing equivalent to at least a McMaster B+ in previous academic work. All applicants are expected to have advanced preparation in the form of a Master's degree or equivalent, or the combination of a course-based Master's degree and strong supporting evidence of their potential as independent investigators. Examples of strong supporting evidence include, but are not limited to: published or unpublished examples of scholarly work, substantive involvement in research, and reference letters that speak explicitly to this issue. Candidates interested in applying to the MD/PhD program are required to have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree at the time of entry, with a minimum GPA of 3.8/4.0 in the final two years and an overall GPA of at least 3.0/4.0. |

Application Notes : | Candidates must complete the MCAT and the CASPer on-line evaluation tool. Minimum MCAT criteria includes a score of 127 or greater on the Critical Analysis and Reasoning section (2015 MCAT and later) or a verbal reasoning score of 10 or greater on the pre-2015 MCAT.
Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to submit an official copy of their TOEFL score, or other evidence of competency in English is required. A minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 92 (580 on the paper-based TOEFL test or 237 on the computer-based TOEFL test) is needed for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students taking the IELTS are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each category. Equivalent scores on other recognized tests may also be considered. Each of these scores are only valid for 2 years. Students who have completed an Academic ESL program through Canadian academic institutions may petition to have this considered in lieu of TOEFL. Applicants may be exempted from this requirement if they have completed a university degree at which English is the language of instruction. |
