Description: | The Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization (BDC) program is a new, limited enrollment offering by the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences with key contributions from the School of Business. The training program will encompass level III and IV of undergraduate studies as well as a 12-month course-based Master program. The latter will include a 4-month internship in the health sciences sector. This limited enrollment program will afford a unique educational experience for students seeking first-rate training in the biomedical sciences with an emphasis on drug discovery and development.
The Master of Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program is a one-year course-based Master's that equips graduates with the scientific and technical knowledge that underlies breakthrough discoveries in the biomedical sciences as well as an understanding of business fundamentals of the health sciences sector. The program is full-time and includes an internship in sectors related to the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry. Preference will be given to those applicants who completed the Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program at McMaster University. The program is offered by the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences with key contributions from the School of Business.

Prerequisites:* | These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Master’s level admission will be almost exclusively to students who have completed the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program. Applicants applying from outside the BDC undergraduate program will have their course work assessed for equivalencies before being considered further. Short-listed applicants who did not complete the Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program, but who have an equivalent Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, will be subject to an interview process.

Application Notes : | Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to submit an official copy of their TOEFL score, or other evidence of competency in English is required. A minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 92 (580 on the paper-based TOEFL test or 237 on the computer-based TOEFL test) is needed for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students taking the IELTS are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each category. Equivalent scores on other recognized tests may also be considered. Each of these scores are only valid for 2 years. Students who have completed an Academic ESL program through Canadian academic institutions may petition to have this considered in lieu of TOEFL. Applicants may be exempted from this requirement if they have completed a university degree at which English is the language of instruction. |
