| Description | Gain intellectual flexibility and sophistication, the ability to assess ideas, think clearly and creatively, and appreciate multiple perspectives on important matters. Build highly developed writing, research, analytical and oral presentation skills through courses taught by our award-winning and internationally recognized professors. You’ll study moral, social and political philosophy; philosophy of mind, cognitive science, language and knowledge; and the history of philosophy. You can choose a concentration in Philosophy, Ethics and Public Affairs or take fourth-year seminars in our faculty members’ current areas of research. The student-led Carleton University Philosophy Society organizes regular discussion groups, tutoring and celebrations. Several notable public figures have also studied Philosophy at Carleton.
