DescriptionThe Cultural Mediations PhD program is housed in the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture. The program is designed to advance knowledge and understanding of that body of cultural theory and those cultural practices that inform literary studies, cinema studies and work in music, art history and new media, along with the historical, intellectual and social frames of reference that this work invokes. The central objective of the program is to provide students with a combination of interdisciplinary intellectual and imaginative breadth along with disciplinary training and competence. This “double-track” is designed to produce graduates who are equipped for interdisciplinary positions within the ongoing disciplinary life of academic departments.
