Description | The Health Studies Program explores how health is shaped by the circumstances in which people are born, grow up, live, work, and age, and how these in turn connect to a wider set of environmental, social, cultural, economic, and political forces. Health Studies students investigate the impact of systems put in place to deal with illness, and examine how understandings of health are shaped by the cultures we live in and by competing claims about health and disease.
Students in the major stream receive interdisciplinary training in critical approaches to health and care. Students in the specialist stream undertake directed independent research culminating in an undergraduate research project that is excellent training for graduate studies. The Health Studies program also allows students to tailor their studies so that they can focus on specific aspects of health and health care. | | |
