Description | Health service systems and, to some extent, concepts in dentistry, differ in Europe and North America. Therefore, Canadian, as well as, German students are exposed to an environment that their home universities are not able to offer. German students spend five weeks in Alberta, four weeks of which they provide supervised dental care to patients in under-serviced rural populations through the outreach satellite dental clinics in Northern Alberta. Canadian students benefit from a 3-week exposure to a European perspective in dental education, science and technology. Most of the teaching is held in English, obviating any language problems. The limited visitation period does not negatively impact on their performance in the regular courses. This is an advantage when compared to more extended stays.
Besides the invaluable professional experience, the exposure to a foreign culture makes the exchange a most memorable experience. | | |
