Description | In the present economic climate, the human and financial costs of workplace accidents have increased to such an extent that they have become a negative factor in economic growth. Progressive companies and organizations are constantly looking for ways in which they can reduce costs and become more competitive. Due to recent changes in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and in the administration of Workers’ Compensation employer assessments, employers are becoming increasingly aware that an opportunity exists for them to significantly improve efficiency and profitability through a reduction of losses due to accidents and occupational disease. Employer due diligence requirements have been considerably expanded with the implementation of these recent legislative changes. Safety Engineering Technology (Post Diploma) Co-op utilizes a combination of engineering, physical and behavioural sciences to reduce and eliminate losses. The program consists of two academic terms which may be completed either full-time or part-time on a course credit basis. Completion of the Diploma also requires a cooperative education work term during which the student conducts a comprehensive on-the-job identification, analysis and evaluation of the various stages necessary to initiate or upgrade an existing safety program.
