Description | The goal for the students at this level is the ability to engage in informal, non-academic conversations requiring facility with a sophisticated vocabulary relating to more complex everyday situations. Students will be able to appreciate and express opinions about movies, television programs, sporting events, comment on current events, understand news programs and topics of interest. They will demostrate good understanding of spoken English, speak without much hesitation, learn to use and understand idiomatic expressions, good pronunciation and appropriate vocabulary.
While the emphasis in the course is conversation, students will also be expected to master several components necessary to clear communication. These are Intermediate level grammar, fluency, listening comprehension, vocabulary expansion - including idioms and phrasal verbs, reading compression, writing skills - including resume, cover letter, and a book report. Students' assessment reports will be based on regularly scheduled quizzes, component tests and oral presentations of one to three minutes on topics assigned or freely chosen. At the end of the course students will be able to speak, listen, read and write at an intermediate level without hesitation. | | |
