Applicants who have completed university degree programs, other than the four-year BDES (for example, a four year BA), must provide evidence of work related to the student's intended area of study that is representative of a level of development equivalent to advanced study in a university program, and a transcript showing completion of senior level coursework in the History of Art and Design. You require a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4 point scale (B average or 75%) in the last two years of study.

Description | The approach of the Industrial Design program toward the profession and the creative process emphasizes: research, critical analysis, problem identification, concept development, innovation, functional requirements, appropriate technology, human factors, aesthetic criteria and social responsibility, so that a product meets the needs of the user according to a very broad frame of reference. Past graduate thesis projects have included: an educational construction system for children; a projection system to map changing global human requirements; an ergonomically designed kitchen system; a transfer of office chair technology to a wheelchair application; a body support system for the exercise of spinal cord injured persons; adaptable interior walls for flexible living, and the aerodynamic design for a solar energy powered car. The projects normally involve interdisciplinary collaboration with members of the academic, professional and business communities, both locally and elsewhere.
