Prerequisites Notes | Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant Status. Must provide a copy of a birth certificate and/or citizenship certificate. Applicants must be 19 years of age by program start date, and have completed Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level. Applicants are also required to complete a Holland College medical form. Successful completion of P.A.R.E. (Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation) Test form - Part A, B, and C is also required. Test must be conducted by an official test administrator within 12 months of the application deadline and signed by a physician (separate from medical form). Applicants must also pass a visual acuity exam.
In addition, applicants must hold a valid unrestricted Canadian driver’s license (must have been driving for a minimum of one year prior to start of program), and provide a Driver’s Abstract indicating 1 year with no moving violations and an acceptable driving record. A Police Records Check with no findings of guilt (CPIC) is also necessary, as is the successful completion of the Police Officer Selection Test (P.O.S.T.), the Police Science Test (P.S.T.), and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2). Successful completion of a full background check and the successful completion of polygraph interview are also required. Applicants should have a Keyboarding Certificate indicating a speed of 20 wpm for a minimum of three minutes with no more than three errors. Finally, applicants are asked to submit three letters of reference from work, school or volunteer experience, and to include a résumé outlining work and volunteer experience with applicable dates, membership in groups, associations or athletics, awards and distinctions, and any other information about yourself relevant to the program. | | |

Description | The Police Science (Cadet) program blends academic and tactical training to ensure that you have the confidence and skills needed to keep yourself and your community safe. The program uses real-life situations and simulations to prepare you for the law enforcement profession.
You will practice on a driving course and gun range, learn use of force and control skills, develop criminal investigation techniques, and receive communications and mental health training. Academic components include coursework in sociology, psychology and law. | | |
