Description | For non-native speakers of English.
Practice English conversation and enjoy the company of other learners in a relaxed, informal classroom setting while learning functions such as how to politely and appropriately interrupt, agree, disagree, clarify, and repair miscommunication. The class serves a variety of social purposes: small talk, telling stories, and conversation with friends, neighbors, and colleagues. By enhancing your awareness of the most natural, correct, and appropriate ways to speak and respond to others, this course will build your confidence for successful interactions in a wide range of real-life social settings as well as providing speaking and listening practice in a supportive and comfortable environment. Attention to non-verbal aspects of communication, including intonation, facial expressions, posture, and gesturing will further enhance your new skills. Students are encouraged to bring topics and other special requests to the instructor so that the class will best meet their needs. Expect one hour of homework each week. | | |
