DescriptionAnthropology is the study of what it means to be human amongst contemporary problems. It combines intricate and stimulating fieldwork, where one observes and participates in people’s lives, with the depth and rigor of academic research to understand the ways in which we live in the world through time, and in different places.

Anthropology’s integrative approach to method and theory not only helps us understand better the vast array of human practices and constitutive relations with non-humans, but is fundamental to identifying and understanding the critical social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental challenges of today. Our specialized program in sociocultural anthropology will prepare students for future careers with skills in empirical research and analysis, critique and the development of creative new solutions to the problems posed by globalization, environmental change, poverty and development, migration, and new technologies.
