Description | The Diploma in Real Estate Development, and Project and Construction Management is a unique program that provides a curriculum encompassing all of the issues involved in the physical development of real estate assets. It provides strong career readiness to enter the field as a manager of real estate development projects, with sound knowledge and skills in project and construction management.
This is a unique program that offers students the opportunity to integrate different perspectives: that of the architect, the planner, the engineer, the finance company, and the construction team. This enables students to understand the physical development or real estate, real estate finance and investment, and the business management of real estate companies. Students will not emerge as construction workers, or foremen. They will have a sound understanding of these practical roles, but they will be placed at a higher entry point into management of the real estate firm. This combination of business sense for the real estate firm, and the practical knowledge of the trades, will make students strong candidates for management positions.
Students from this program will be competitive with graduates from Business Administration and Management who seek to enter the real estate field. Unlike the more generic business school graduates, real estate developers must understand, and lead, the very specific technical fields involved, including planners, finance, architects, surveyors, engineers, builders, marketers. They may also have to deal with the media, and government. There is also a perceived tension between the development of real estate and environmental issues. Hence, the graduate of the Diploma (Dipl.) in Real Estate Development, and Project and Construction Management, unlike the generic business graduate, must be well versed in the relevant social, technical, and human sciences.
Please note that this program can also be completed with part-time study in up to 4 years. | | |
