Description | Occupation refers to the meaningful activities and roles within the environments in which people live and function. The goal of occupational therapy intervention is to increase independent function, enhance development, and prevent disability and/or handicap by promoting a balance between the client's occupations in self-care, productivity and leisure.
An occupational therapist is a health care practitioner who analyses the impact of occupation on health and quality of life in order to restore a functional interaction between the person and the environment. This undergraduate program provides the student with a basic health sciences founÂdation and undergraduate level courses specific to the practice of Occupational Therapy.
This is a 90-credit degree which provides access to the Professional Master's program: a 58-credit Master of Science, Applied, Occupational Therapy degree. The Occupational Therapy curriculum emphasizes occupation and occupational performance in daily life, community rehabilitation, client-centered and evidence based practice, clinical reasoning, ethics, teamwork and professionalism as essential components for the development of a humanistic, ethical, knowledgeable, competent, critical thinking and problem-solving occupational therapist. | | |
