Early Learning at SMS is a curriculum-based program for Junior Kindergarten (4-year-olds, and a limited number of 3-year-olds) and Kindergarten (5-year-olds). Experienced, nurturing educators provide an emotionally supportive learning environment that piques the natural curiosity of young girls, and experiences that enhance successful learning through play, exploration and social interaction. The program includes the gradual introduction of literacy and numeracy as well as specialist instruction in French, Mandarin in JK, Music, and Physical Education.
Our Early Learning Program offers:
- Licensed ECE Educators: Our staff are licensed early childhood educators who hold university degrees in education, literature, early childhood education and psychology.
- Specialist Teachers: Students also benefit from lessons with specialist teachers in French, Mandarin, Physical Education, and weekly visits with the teacher-librarian in our school library.
- Continuity in education: Students can be educated at SMS from early learning to grade 12
- Recognition in Excellence: The early years program is led by the recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence Susan Middlemiss, Early Learning Centre Coordinator. She was recognized for her leadership, exemplary early childhood education practices, and her commitment to help build the foundation children need to make the best possible start in life.
