Description | The mechanical engineering program builds on the sound foundations of a three-term common curriculum, following a prescribed program of courses in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, materials science, and design. Students in their final year can opt into either the mechatronics minor, which is the synergistic combination of mechanical engineering, computer, and control systems technology; or the petroleum engineering minor, which deals with fuel sciences, drilling and offshore applications of mechanical engineering. Traditionally, most of our graduate engineers have found rewarding careers in Alberta. Others have met the challenge of working in the Arctic, in offshore development projects, and in engineering offices throughout the world. Calgary is known as the "engineering capital of Canada" and the Schulich internship is the largest of its kind in the country. Students have the option of making this a five year program by participating in a 12 - 16 month internship after the third year to make contacts, get experience, and offset the costs of education. International placements expand horizons even further. | | |
