Computer programmers write, modify, integrate and test computer code for computer games.

Duties May Include

Write computer programs or software packages by coding instructions into machine-readable form

Test, debug, document, and implement computer programs or software packages

Maintain existing computer programs by making minor changes as required

Act as a resource person, solving computer problems for users

Where They Work

Video game programmers generally work in cities. Sometimes they will work from their homes but most time they work in an office environment. Many new media companies use open air concepts for their offices.

Hours

Video game programmers will often work longer hours than 9-5 Monday to Friday. Approaching deadline and release dates for the video games they are producing will increase the hours which they work.
